Timing Chain Tensioner with Shoe (9-5115) by Cloyes®. A timing chain tensioner maintains appropriate tension in the timing chain system. Depending on the OE design, tensioners can use spring tension and/or hydraulic pressure to properly tension the system.

The crankshaft drives the valvetrain via timing gears. Gear timing must be precise to ensure the valves open and close at the right time, for optimum engine performance.
